The "Law of Armed Conflict - Training of Trainers" Course
November 5 - November 15 2013, Belgrade

The course "Law of Armed Conflict - Training of Trainers", organized by the Center for Peacekeeping Operations (CPKO) of the Serbian Armed Forces, funded by the Governments of The Netherlands and the United Kingdom and supported by Canada and Norway, with the technical support from the ISAC fund, will be, for the first time, held in Belgrade. The course is practical continuation to the previous eight courses on "Law of Armed Conflict" held in CPKO since 2007.

The "Law of Armed Conflict (LOAC)" courses held so far have used the program based on the same course conducted at the International Institute of Humanitarian Law, from San Remo. Those Courses provided participants with basic knowledge on International Humanitarian Laws and its application during armed conflicts.

After eight LOAC courses, the need to increase the level of training and education on LOAC in the Serbian Armed Forces (SAF) is still quite clear. This was recognized by the Serbian Ministry of Defense which adopted a strategy for increasing those levels as it is unsustainable to provide knowledge about LOAC to professionals of SAF just through intensive courses that take place once a year. Hence MoD of the Republic of Serbia envisaged enabling officers to become trainers who would make the process self-sustainable. This course is an essential step towards that, with curriculum prepared by international instructors team lead by the Course Director Brigadier General Karl Edlinger.

The Course will be held in the period November 5 -15, at the CPKO, with the Course director from Austria, and instructors from Netherlands, Norway and Canada and two participants from Bosnia and Hercegovina.
